Kerrigan was originally a Terran Ghost who was betrayed in her mission against the Protoss when after completing her mission was left to fend for herself against an oncoming Zerg swarm.
She was believed to have been killed but the Dominion including Raynor who felt love for her, was not aware that she turned into a Human/Zerg hybrid and became a powerful agent controlled by the Zerg Overmind.
The video on the betrayal of Kerrigan was one of the most beautiful and stunning video produced by Blizzard not only for its cinematic effects but because it is major part of the Starcraft storyline. See the video on Kerrigan below.

Arcturus Mengsk is really a vicious Starcraft 2 character. He is willing to sacrifice his own people just to accomplish his goal.
His character is inspired by the attitudes of modern generals who consider soldiers mere pawns ready to be sacrificed to reach strategic goals…..
The resulting character change by Kerrigan though in the Queen of Blades is the single most exciting twist in the starcraft two storyline!
